08:35 am - It's snowing here today

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

It's snowing here today, and everybody's all worked up about it about it. So far, about 0.5 inches have stayed on the ground, and it's quite obvious that none of the people in the cars outside my window really have any idea what they're doing in the snow. It's pretty amusing. I get to play the smug Minnesotan. :-)

I will say though, that since Sunday or Saturday it's actually been cold enough for me to break out my winter coat. Now, I haven't put the liner in it, or worn sweaters underneath mind you. But, it has been cold enough for the heavy thick leather vs. the thin, wind-blocking, heat-trapping thing I was wearing before.

You're talking about an area that normally doesn't get snow and definately not of this amount. This is an area where the people don't know how to drive in it. An area with very steap inclines in downtown Seattle (seattle is built from the waterfront up a cliff on top of the old city).

While it may have only gotten half an inch at your place, I'm working on 2 - 3 inches here. All of the shoveling I did to try and get out of my driveway...that half of the driveway is now level with the other half and still building.

I'm not really trying to personally insult anybody from Seattle for not knowing how to deal with snow well, least of all you. Nor am I trying to imply that you are all losers or incompetent, or anything of the sort for not knowing how.

I simply come from a place in which snow is commonplace, and where 6 inches to a foot of snow is considered to be no big deal at all, and is taken care of routinely. People here have often looked at me with horror when I mention MN, and told me "Isn't it COLD there?!". So, I get to be smug when I see Seattle people trying to deal with snow.
