I did a lot today - Journal of Omnifarious

03:30 am - I did a lot today

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I did two major things today.

First, I went to a local computer store, and bought two systems to be my webserver and firewall here in Seattle. I won't be getting them for a week or two at least, partly because I asked for a just released extra-quiet heatsink. I'm designing these systems for minimum noise. I'm going to have to be in the same room with them all the time, so it's important.

Second, I went on a long bike trip to Discovery Park. Getting everything straight with the systems I wanted took longer than I expected, and the bike ride took a lot longer than I expected, so I didn't get to spend much time there, even though it's very pretty.

Here's the approximate route I took:

There were a lot of hills, and some were pretty steep. It was a very grueling bike ride. I decided to take the bus back. The busses in Seattle all have bike racks. But, when I got off the bus, I forgot about my bike. :-( I'm really hoping my bike shows up at the bus station.

*laugh*I traveled for a significant distance in direct accordance with the route on that map, and I noticed no big purple lines. Discovery Park is a pretty neat place though, so I can see why they might put big purples lines indicating the route to it. But, I'm glad they didn't, since even on a nice Saturday, there didn't seem to be a huge number of people there.

There is a place, just East of downtown, where all the bikes left on busses go. I've had to retrieve mine twice :- It's incredible how many they get! They're stacked right next to each other, wall to wall...
If you call the Metro help line (206)553-3000, you can leave a message, describing the bike, then they will give you the address.

Ah, the Forgetful Seattle Bicyclist.

I know there is a number you can call, and that should direct you to where miscellaneous items, particularly bikes (kept in a separate area) are held. You may have to bring picture ID, but I'm sure you would anyway. I don't know the number but I do recall a site with a lot of good information on K County:

www.metrokc.gov

That should give you some more info. Good luck! :)
