I would like a gmail account, but... - Journal of Omnifarious

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

This is a good caution. I've avoided email accounts on public services like Yahoo for just this reason. Any data that isn't sitting safely ensconced on your computer isn't really private. I also fret about centralization of control. I don't think google is evil, but as they do more and more things, the cost of me being wrong climbs ever higher.

But, I want a gmail account to experiment with. I want to test out some of its features and see how they relate to my CAKE project. I want to see what innovative things they've done so I have them as food for thought.

So, if anybody has a gmail invite code they'd like to give me, I'd appreciate it.

Edit <11:37>: I got one, thanks to accozzaglia. My gmail address is my LJ username at gmail.com. I would appreciate it if you would only send me email there that you consider public enough for public LJ post.

I love my username. It's almost never taken, anywhere. :-)

I can build you a swanky design for the CAKE site, should you grow weary of the text-on-white layout.

That might be interesting. Would you want any compensation for it? Maybe a link to a website of yours with your resumé?

I will probably be contacting you about it again sometime soon. I need to think about it for awhile though.

Hi :)

Just peeked at the Cake project. How are messages routed?

(Didn't read in depth, but didn't see anything in my skimming)

The short answer can be found by looking at LocationAssertion and following the links from there. The long answer requires a little more explanation, and I should probably make a Wiki page about it.
