I was just trying to think of an amusingly unlikely form of cross country teleportation, and I got to thinking that there must be a reason that all the Hotel 6's look pretty much the same. I figure that it's so that if you go to sleep in one of them and wake up in another, you will not be unduly alarmed.

i'm in love with this idea.
these are the things i fantasise about.
especially if it was still $40 a night!
as soon as you make this possible, let me know.
i'll be yr beta tester for it.

that said, it wouldn't have to be a motel. the "passengers" could go into one walmart and exit into another city, for example.

That could work too. *laugh* That would be a good Twilight Zone episode.

Or, following the lead of simultaneity, a Denny's, or a MacDonald's drive through - order your burger in Boston, pick it up in San Jose ...

That almost works, except that too much of the scenery would change around you, while you could observe it. The beauty of Motel 6 or WalMart is that the scenery that changed wouldn't be visible until you went out of the store. And you'd be expecting the store, or the hotel room to be turning into a parking lot when you stepped out, so it wouldn't really be a big deal. Not the same as suddenly having it all change right before your eyes, while you were watching it.
