In this article Revealed: U.S. Soldier Killed Herself After Objecting to Interrogation Techniques it is revealed that the one of the first female casualties in Iraq died because she killed herself after refusing to be present at interrogations where interrogation techniques were being used that she objected to.

Her death was initially listed as "Non-hostile weapons discharge" and only a FOIA filing managed to uncover the real reason. She was a translator and interrogator.

This happened way back on September 15th, 2003, just months after our invasion. This leaves little doubt in my mind that the various instances of soldiers torturing prisoners were not isolated incidents by rogue units, but were in fact part of an organized campaign with orders from the top. Because this incident were known about, it would certainly have come to someone's attention, and Rumsfeld's claims to not have known about the torture before the press knew are highly suspect.

It's not possible that other soldiers were responsible for her death after she disagreed with their practices?

That's quite possible I suppose. And that would be even worse. But if you read the article, the documents that came back from the FOIA request are fairly comprehensive and detailed in a way I wouldn't expect of a coverup like that.

I couldn't find anything online regarding the original radio broadcast by Kevin Elston. The Fallen Heroes website has not been updated with the information of her suicide. (I wonder if her family does not want it known?)

I wonder why someone would kill herself instead of taking a dishonorable discharge from service and leaving the military. Because she would end up in a military prison?

The article made it sound like she was really upset with the fact she had participated at all, and that she felt really bad about herself for it. But if they could get a copy of the suicide note that might clarify things a lot.
