Grad school is basically my only hope at this point, really. I'm working on a Japanese Linguistics / Psychology double-major. Like a transuranium element in a particle collider, this bizarre conglomeration can only exist in academia.

I was highly impressed and amused at the same time. :-)

While the analogy is great, a linguistics/psych double isn't that odd, since the field of developmental linguistics/psycho-linguistics is HOT right now.

*grin* I agree. In my reply I said this:

It seems to me that psychology and language must be an ouroboros with inexhaustible opportunities for research.

In another context, the ouroboros idea would've popped up in my head but I would've not bothered to look up the word and found a different way of saying it. But I felt I had to do something to be worthy of the marvelously witty analogy I'd been blessed with. :-)

I think that may be one of the best reasons to look up a spelling that I have ever heard: one-ups-man-ship!
