08:48 am - I broke my glasses

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I broke my glasses yesterday. They are the ones I got when I moved to Seattle (I picked option 4 in the linked to poll). They had been rather stressed already and the bridge was somehow very recently severely weakened and broke where it connected to the frame around one of the lenses.

I've never had a pair of glasses break before. I sort of have a back-up pair, but they are very ugly and I don't want to wear them most of the time. I can't really afford to replace the decent ones right now though. :-(

See, you should have gone for the hip black ones. Then they would match electrical tape. :^D

Or the white tape on black frames, for that "I'm so nerdy that I've gone all the way back to cool" look.

Repair, not replace them

(Link)

There is a place in Bellevue, right by the transit center downtown, that repairs glasses. The guy has a lot of frame parts in stock and can re-mount the lenses, etc. while you wait for a small amount of money.

You'll need the numbers from the frame, which is usually on one of the temples. There may be a size on the lensepiece as well.

He's quite good--replaced both temples on my titanium-framed glasses after first one, then the other solders broke. He also repaired my frameless glasses after the mounting screw stripped.

Thanks, they did a fine job, though it wasn't cheap. It was cheaper than new glasses though. :-)

Suckage. I've seen your backup glasses, and you're right - they're hideous. I hope you can get the newer ones repaired!

When you're ready to buy a new pair. I bet you need to update your prescrip, anyway.

I always liked those frames. They were flattering. Do you know anyone handy who could work magic with epoxy, just until you can get new ones?
