Could you also please friend
hopper [omnifarious.org] by clicking here:
and put that user (who is also me) in all the same groups you put me. If LJ ever lets you use your OpenID identity to log into an existing journal, this may be moot. but I'm not counting on that feature ever happening.
As an aside, if you click on the
icon in
hopper [omnifarious.org], it takes you someplace different than clicking on the hopper [omnifarious.org] does. The
takes you to the LJ user info page, and the hopper [omnifarious.org] part takes you to the homepage for the ID.
That someone made up a reason out of thin air why I was having a hard time finding an apartment and subsequently has been telling people this reason as if it is fact. The supposed reason is that I do a lot of pot, which is an idea that would cause most people who know me at all to give you a really strange look and fall down laughing. It's really interesting to me that someone is willing to make up a reason out of thin air and spread it around as truth.
So, yeah, if you don't know the reason for something in my life, please don't tell people random garbage you just sort of randomly find in some deep dark stinky place in your own soul. You can just report what you do know and let me tell my own story if I so choose. That will be just fine, thanks.

Post something, anything, that you think I should do in 2008. Can be a resolution, or something fun. Ideas will be rated for merit :)
This is a rather odd request, but I'm looking for someplace, anyplace in the Seattle area that will do a blood based drug screening test for a walk-in patient. I really need an answer to this before Friday. I've been doing a LOT of hunting myself and I haven't been able to find anyplace that will do it.
And it has to be blood. Hair will not do.
Thanks.
Edit: I found someone who would do it. It wasn't easy. I somehow magically got the contact # for someone inside one of the companies who's front people told me "We won't do that because you're just a person, not a corporation.". This person was willing to finagle something so that a place that normally handles urine walk-ins was willing to collect the money as a front for Labcorps, a place that will only do tests for individuals.
rainonthewind won't be able to take him because her fiancé is allergic and her hoped for house with plenty of outdoors space for him fell through. She's pretty sure she can find a home for him, but I figure it can't hurt to ask here either.
I'm looking for a temporary home for this cat. He doesn't have any bad habits. He scratches his scratching post, not furniture. He uses his litter box. He doesn't have hairballs. He gets along pretty well with other cats. He's friendly, but not obnoxiously attention seeking. He's neutered and is about 2-3 years old. I'd be willing to foot vet bills if need be.
I hope to be able to take him back within 12-20 months. I will be moving from the place I just found unless they change their minds about letting me have him.
My servers will be offline for nearly a week starting on November 30th and ending on December 6th (hopefully). This means that http://www.omnifarious.org/ will be down, and no mail to omnifarious.org addresses will be delivered.
*sigh* This is the part about moving that I hate almost as much as packing.
Anyway, if anybody who is online and running a mail server is willing to be my backup MX and store messages for the duration I would be very grateful. Especially if you have fairly good spam filtering that always blocks spam before accepting delivery so people who send legitimate mail that's accidentally blocked are given a decent bounce message.
They all want to move on and do their separate thing. *sigh* So I'm on my own mostly. If you know of a 1000 sq/ft or so 2 bedroom for less than $1000 that's in the city of Seattle, or a 1400 sq/ft or so 3 bedroom for less than $1600 (I may move in with
lycaenidae) I would be most pleased.
Other living arrangements are possible. I have about 6 bookcases full of mostly books, a futon a bunch of computers, a computer desk, a bed and a dresser that I need space for. It is mandatory that the bed be in its own room. Closet space in that room would be most helpful.
Oh, also, I have a cat named 'Zow'. :-) He's a pretty nice, easygoing cat though.
rainonthewind, would you be willing to take care of him for awhile (possibly a couple of years) if absolutely necessary?
I remember seeing recently an interesting webpage about the really unique template and specialized type based micro-multithreading library for C++. It would do things like notice when you were doing an array operation in which things were independent and handle half the array in a new thread, or have a specialized routine for handling adding all the array elements together using two threads.
But now I can't find it. It looked really intriguing.
Secondly, I made this post in
advancedcpp about this C++ construct I want to use for handling callbacks to potentially disappearing objects. I made something that works, but I don't really like exactly how it works, and it would be nice to have something that worked better. So, if you like puzzles like that, please go over there and comment. :-)
Lastly, mostly unrelated to computers, I had a marvelous day of chatting with
sebab and playing Go. :-)
Here is a link to the Seattle area Slashdot Anniversary party. It's being held in one of the buildings Amazon occupies, the PacMed building on Beacon Hill. I intend to go. I hope to see any other local people who are interested there too. :-)
According to this post the organizer wants you to email him with your name and Slashdot id before you go to make it easier to get you through Amazon's security. He says he'll be posting more updates in a personal journal entry on the topic.
Here is a link to a google map of the PacMed building to make it easier to get driving or public transit directions to there. For those unaware, Google map directions now include a little link that lets you get bus routes.
Should I wear my 'Google' shirt to the interview at Google tomorrow morning, or should I wear my IETF shirt? Or should I try for something nicer than a geeky t-shirt and black jeans? Keep in mind, this is Google we're talking about it. It might well be to my detriment to wear a suit. :-)
Update: I think it went really well.
I go out and do a lot of things. Many of these things I would enjoy doing with people I liked. I'm really bad about thinking to invite people to go do things with me.
I think I'm going to start posting my social plans here as far in advance as I can so that people can tell me they'd like to come with if they can. I will filter the various social plans I post to people I'd be comfortable sharing whatever it is I'm doing with.
So if I post something I'm doing and you think you'd like to come with, leave me a message. :-) I shall start tagging all such messages with 'social' so they are easy to find. Just use this link: http://omnifarious.livejournal.com/tag/s
I'm off to see The Last Starfighter with
eonen and others on Saturday at midnight at The Egyptian theater on Capitol Hill. This is a movie that is definitely worth the big screen. It's a fun, silly movie. Not spectacularly good, but with its own strange charm, even though it's not a quark either.
If anybody wants to come with me, they'd be welcome. Please reply to this entry and say something if you are interested. :-)
I want a GSM based phone that can be used with T-Mobile. It either has to have an on-screen based keyboard as nice as the iPhone's (complete with the guessing features) or a physical keyboard like the Treo's. It has to be GPL3 compliant, meaning that I can replace ALL the software on the phone, except, perhaps, the software on the GSM chip itself. Ideally it would also be 802.11 capable.
Does anybody know of such a beast?
svairini,
lurana,
maatnofret,
rosencrantz319 and
nightspell/
nightspell2 are all OK. And so is
dddragonlady,
pisces3857 and others at the Mythic Palace. Also,
hypatia_j and
smferris are OK.
I hope nobody I know in Minneapolis was hurt by the Minneapolis 35W bridge collapse near the U of MN.
I've kinda given up on celebrating it though. *smile* Though
daisykitten gave me a nice present this morning. ;-)
I'm now in Minneapolis, safely ensconced in
rosencrantz319's condo. Thanks a whole bunch for putting me up
rosencrantz319! It's odd not being able to go back to my house, but it now has renters who aren't my friends.
I'm now safely in San Francisco. I'm going to Baycon this evening. I'm staying at this hotel located here. That's about all. :-)
So, here's the ad. Is there anything obvious wrong with it? Is there anything subtle wrong with it?
Thanks. :-)
We need a roommate for June. It's a nice large room on the 2nd floor. The house will be shared with
klicrai and I in Ballard. It's a fairly nice house and it's only real problem is that noise carries too easily and it has only one bathroom.
We need a new roommate because our current roommate (Jeremy) is moving out to help some family members/good friends with a really hard situation they've suddenly found themselves in.
The room is $500/mo + about $150/mo in utilities (including Internet). I have a nice, fast Internet connection. and I do all the household tech support. :-)
If anybody is interested, or you know anybody who is, reply here. I'll set comments to be screened just in case you want to be a bit private about it. If you want the comment unscreened, say so in the comment.
Also,
klicrai is doing most of the housework in exchange for a discount on rent.
I'll be flying to San Francisco, CA at the end of May to possibly attend Baycon, spend some time with Rose and meet
joreth. I'm leaving later on the morning of Saturday the 26th and coming back on the evening of Wednesday the 30th.
If there's anybody else down there who would like some of my time, say something and I'll juggle my schedule a bit and see if I can fit you in. :-)
