Does the Arab world want to commit suicide?

American beheaded in revenge for torture in US run Iraqi jails.

They have no clue what they are doing. Stupid, stupid people. They didn't do something people here could've respected, like attacking the perpetrators of the torture. No, they pick some civilian contractor they've kidnapped and kill him.

All they accomplish is convincing people in America to ignore what happened in those jails. Do they want us to set up death camps and kill them all, because we will. If they keep fighting us in this way, it will just increase our anger, which will increase theirs, which will increase ours, etc... etc... Do they really want a fight to the death?

I'm so angry at this. My country will become a horrible rabid dog that will have to be shot so the rest of the world will be safe because some Muslims don't know how to fight a war. If they'd played their cards right, they would've won because we tipped our hand in Abu Ghraib, but now many Americans will be able to justify it all. We will set up death camps. I know it. *frustrated sigh*

Edit 2005-05-12 09:30: The phrase "people here could've respected" used to read "honorable".

It's much too late -- our country already has become a horrible rabid dog.

I don't know that I'm ready to accept genocide yet.

It didn't convince me to ignore what happened. I see it as clearly retaliatory for a hostile occupation.
I don't think what happened justifies death camps, I don't think anything does.
There is a point in war at which the civilian population doesn't care anymore if they win or lose, because everyone knows someone who has been killed, dismembered or tortured and everyone expects to be killed soon. It's a kind of futility where no one will win.
When you say "we", who do you mean? I'm not going to kill anyone.

Of course it didn't. I'm not talking about you.

No, nothing does, but tell that to an inflamed population led by a demagogue.

If they had Ghandi instead of bin Laden and Arafat, they would'be probably won a decade or two ago. At least in the ways that matter to them.

When you say "we", who do you mean? I'm not going to kill anyone.

We are supposedly a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We are responsible, each and every one of us, for its actions.

Are you kidding me? The Iraqis are responding to the torture we've inflicted on the people at Abu Ghraib prison, and can we really expect any less, given what we've done?

We've attacked these people at the core of their belief structure, forced them to do things that are so degrading that one might as well be dead in the eyes of their family and friends -- to the point where people who have spent time in that prison have been forced to leave their country simple because of the stigma that carries with it.

So you know what? I feel sorry for the civilian contractor, and I empathize with the soldiers, especially given that I was one once... But this, like 9/11, is something that we brought on ourselves thanks to our arrogance, ignorance, and bully tactics.

We won't set up death camps. There's too many good people left in this country to allow for something like that...but you know what? I'm going to be looking to emigrate before too long if this shit keeps up. I'd prefer not to sit under the crosshairs painted by bullshit foreign policy.

I'm not kidding you. All these things are true. But that is not how the average American will think, and what they did will not help their cause.

If all the good people emigrate, who's left?

You have your choice of the crosshairs of the disorganized terrorists, or the largest nuclear arsonal in the world. I'll take my chances here and hope there really are enough good people left.

No, Rush Limbaugh will become a rabid dog. And should be given something lethal with his oxycontin.

BUT, WE MUST STAND FOR THE RULE OF LAW!!

We must demonstrate that our principles stand first, and that while some will advocate for more retalition, those that know better do NOT want us to become like Israel and the Palestinians.

This is a *perfect* example that going into Iraq is creating MORE terrorists!! Before the insurgents were after Saddaam, now they have joined forces with Osama.

Some people will froth at the mouth, but all it takes is a good ad campaign that ANYONE frothing at the mouth is a terrorist, no matter there color of skin or politics.

We need to paint the extremists as EXTREMISTS.

Um, no.

They do not want to die. But they will, if they have to. The beheading of the American gentleman was unfortunate, yes, but see how upset you are now? That's how upset they were. Especially after seeing such insulting and degrading images of torture to their own brothers.
The Qu'ran does not state that violence inflicted upon others is the way to be closer to "God"; however, dying for Islam and their beliefs - in the eyes of Allah - is what proves their loyalty and respect.

I wish they would choose to die by quietly massing in front if Israeli bulldozers and refusing to budge even given a hail of rubber bullets in front of media coverage. I wish they'd attack the prison, extract prisoners and publish eyewitness accounts. I wish they'd use the media to air their grievances. It's possible, and it would help their cause a lot more than kidnapping enemy civilians and chopping off their heads on video.

Doing what they're doing just causes many people here to think they're irrational and can't be reasoned with. Or to just simply be angry and upset. It will perpetuate the violence, and doing that is very bad for both of us. It will cost them many lives, and it will cost us our souls.

I, personally, can't find anything in my heart except for sadness, despair and frustration over the killing. I understand why they did it, but they did the wrong thing for themselves.

The whole thing makes me sick. But more than the fact that it was done was the fact that the guy shouldn't have been there in the first place, and wouldn't have been, if the freakin US hadn't screwed with him and kept him under lock and key long past when he intended to go home. Check the link in my LJ, Omni.
