07:59 am - Interesting stuff about Nick Berg

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Apparently Nick Berg's father is on a list of "enemies" (and a link to my personal mirror if the original disappears), and that may be why he was detained by the Iraqi police and the FBI.

One interesting question... Why was he wearing a standard orange prison jumpsuit? This doesn't fit the MO of terrorist operatives previously. They normally leave their hostages clothed in whatever they were wearing when they were captured.

Also, how did al-Qaeda managed to infiltrate Iraq so quickly? They were never there in the first place, and now they had the resources to pull of a kidnapping operation?

A hitch though is that the video apparently first appeared on an al-Qaeda linked web site.

Anyway This article (and other articles on the site) have further evidence that the video may have been partially faked, and the people behind the masks might've been US military. Supporting evidence for this view is given. Some of the evidence is the known actions Freep members have taken against other people on the enemies list.

The article deserves reading. I consider it to have somewhat more supporting evidence than the idea that president Clinton had Vince Foster killed, and a lot more supporting evidence than a similar speculation about Wellstone.

Edit 2005/05/14 13:55 PDT: bohemianrapsody has found some sites that seem a little more dispassionate in their analysis, and have a more concise description of the anamolies. She links to them in this post.

Red Not Orange

(Link)
I read the article. Though I am skeptical about some of the information (i.e. the "matching chair"), I decided to look up information about Iraqi prison uniforms. I found out from this article that the Abu Ghraib prison uniforms are red: http://www.heraldnet.com/Stories/04/5/3/18561068.cfm . It did seem strange that Nick Berg was wearing the orange uniform, which is usually U.S. convict prison wear.

Out of curiosity, how reliable is Breakfornews.com?

I get the impression that it's hit or miss. I think you have to apply a lot of your own critical thinking.

In the article you cite, there may be multiple translation barriers that cause what we would call orange to be translated as red. I would like to see an actual picture of the uniform to be sure. I have seen pictures of people from Guantanamo Bay, and their prison outfits are orange.

There are a couple of other anomalies... After reading all this, I decided I had to watch the video, and I noticed these two anomalies, in addition to the prison uniform:

  • The statement is not read with passion, it is read like someone reading a piece of paper. I've heard passionate Arabic, and that's not what was in the video.
  • There's no blood. There's a lot of blood going through your neck into your head. But, there's no blood in the video, and the cut is very clean, not like you'd get from using a knife.

The prison uniform is the biggest one though. It doesn't fit a terrorist MO at all.

I would like to see a picture of an actual Iraqi prison uniform, too. Yes, there could be a translation barrier with the article, I cited. Anyway, I agree that the orange jumpsuit doesn't fit the terrorist MO -- I would think that Nick Berg would have been in street clothing.

I haven't watched the entire video yet, but I think I might. I was trying to avoid watching the entire video because I have been nauseated by this incident. Thanks for the reply.

I wasn't going to see it either because I felt the same as you do. But now that these questions have been raised, I felt I had to watch it. I'm going to grit my teeth and watch the Daniel Pearl video as well for comparison purposes.

A lot of interesting questions could be answered if the family had the body examined by a competent and trustworthy forensics expert. I hope they do. I'm betting they'll discover that decapitation was not the cause of death. I'm also betting they'll discover the decapitation was not done by a knife using a sawing motion.

Where are the videos?

I was going to ask you who Nick Berg was, but thankfully the name shows up multiple times in internet news headlines, so I found out before I could make a complete fool of myself. I'm quite out of the loop this week.
