11:28 pm - Pleasant evening

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I got some important things accomplished at work today, and I'm happy about that.

I met someone on the bus who I had first talked to several months ago. It was fun to reconnect.

I had a nice long chat over coffee with seattlejo. That was fun.

I had a bit of late dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery, and discovered an English lass reading "Clockwork Orange". That was fun too. I've decided that people who bring books to read to bars are probably worth talking to. :-)

So, I've had a pretty enjoyable day. :-)

You were at the Rock Bottom Brewery?

Wow, I just walked past there today!

So close and yet so far!

*chuckle* I should get some extremely precise measurement of the distance between the RBB in Minneapolis and the one in Seattle. An as-the-mole-burrows distance, and an as-the-oscillation-overthruster-powered-crow-flies distance. A normal crow wouldn't do because there are mountains in the way. And while an oscillation overthruster powered crow could take the same route as the mole, presumably, being a crow, it would naturally decide that flying a couple hundred feet above average ground level was actually the best course, or something like that. Maybe JATO assisted, oscillation-overthrustered powered volvo distance.

There's a game (and it's made for Linux even) called 'BZFlag' that based on the old Battlezone game. One of the special flags your tank can pick up is called the 'Oscillation Overthruster', and it allows you to go through solid objects. :-)

drat. I thought you were still in town. sowwy.

Feed the crow some hot pepper sauce, and you won't need any oscillation device. BOOM!

i don't think the bar was listening.

i've thought about that quite a bit, having only been 21 for less than a year- i wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do in a bar if i were to go by myself. it is acceptable behavior to approach someone you don't know (who is reading no less!)?

If they are actually reading to the bar, that would be rather strange. Depending on whether or not the person seemed unhinged, that would either greatly increase, or greatly decrease the chance that I would start a conversation with them. *grin*

From everything I've been able to discern, it's generally considered perfectly fine (and even expected to an extent) to start conversations in bars with people who aren't involved in a close conversation with someone else, even if they are reading. I don't generally frequent bars myself, but the few times I have been in one, that's been my impression of the unwritten social rules. :-)

I actually go to RBB pretty often, but I generally don't start conversations with people there because most of the people seem really interested in sports. I mostly go there because I really like their chili, and I don't cook at all for myself. :-/

I eat out, a lot. I make plans revolving around when various restaraunts will be open or which ones I'll be near. I should cook more, or at least eat easily prepared food I can buy from a supermarket. But, I don't. :-/

Guide to Pub Etiquette. No, it's not the same in the US, but I felt compelled to bring it up.
