11:03 am - Marvelous bike ride

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Though, somehow, I wish there were a different term I could use. See, I barely had to pedal. It was all downhill.

I've decided to ride my bike to and from work. To work is all downhill, and from work is all uphill. This suits me well.

Today was particularly nice because all the lights were in my favor. I probably averaged 30 or 40 mph. I certainly outpaced many of the cars. :-) It was kind of exhilarating and it cut my commute time to 5 minutes from 30.

Going home is faster too, even though it's all uphill. I can still bicycle uphill faster than I can walk. It's good exercise too. I do have a reasonably frequent cardiovascular workout that I engage in anyway *grin*, but the bike ride is bit more strenuous. I should soon be back to the level of fitness I would be at the end of a summer in Minneapolis.

Current Mood: accomplished

Jeez. Your story has made me very, very tired. :) I can't imagine riding a bike to my place of work. I certainly couldn't get there in 5 minutes. hehehe

Well, this ride last year kind of put me off of the idea for awhile. :-)

?

If you ever go to the Eastside, try the I-90 bike path. It's gorgeous either direction!

I will have to try that sometime. I have reason to go over to the Eastside reasonably frequently. :-)

Oh, also... that ride was exceptionally grueling mostly because of the hills. The distance wasn't bad, but the hills were awful. That's my main problem with biking around Seattle. I have to carefully plan routes so that I don't end up mainly going up steeply graded hills.

Oh yeah. Hills are something to look out for. Burke Gilman is a pleasant ride, either direction. Have you tried it? I never got a chance to do the I-90 thing, darn!
