Now he's been talking about a few things that are all related...

First, there are the laws of thermodynamics (and a poorly written Wikipedia link). Particularly the second law. The second is the time irreversibility of quantum systems, and the time reversibility of all the other laws of physics. And lastly, black holes and the beginning and end of the universe are brought in.

If I'm not mistaken, there are several physics advances which would at least require modifications to this section. One being that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. Another being that Stephen Hawking has now decided that the evidence supports the idea that black holes do no destroy information. And another being that I think more is now known about what a 'measurement' means in a quantum system, and the interactions between measurement, entanglement and the collapse of quantum wave functions.

I would like to summarize the points here, but I haven't fully processed it yet, and it would take longer than I have right now to write it all down anyway.

Years ago, Stephen Baxter wrote a really good book or three. One of the central groups in it believed that they should basically throw everything they cared about into black holes because at the end of time, the information would still be available. Can't remember the exact plot (it's been a WHILE), but I do remember that concept and it was a very good series.
