08:53 pm - An experiment with de.lirio.us
There's this idea I haven't played with too much called 'social bookmarking'. There's a site that implements it using Open Source software called de.lirio.us. I've set up my own account there. to test out the idea. It's called 'Omnifarious1' because I made a mistake on the form when registering both Omnifarious and Omnifarious0. :-/
The basic idea is that you add bookmarks to your list and give them tags you think you will find helpful in hunting them down again later. Lots of other people are doing the same thing. If things go well, you might be able to combine your bookmark list for a tag with other people's and see even more interesting bookmarks.
Anyway, it's a test. We'll see how it works. I mostly just want a place to save bookmarks in a way that's easy to search. My browser's hierarchical bookmark tree and the fact that it stays sitting on the computer I'm running the browser on make it not so useful.
The site that pioneered the concept is called del.icio.us (which is why de.lirio.us has such an odd name), but they don't publish the source code for the site, and I therefor don't trust them as much.
