06:56 pm - The continuing saga of the AC

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Well, the AC repair guy came by and pushed a button. Cost me $134, but at least I know which button he pushed now so I can do it when the time comes. It was a circuit breaker of sorts, but for the coolant pressure. For some reason, the cooland was over-pressure and the thing flipped.

I'm getting a new, much more efficient AC unit next year. It'll cost me about $5k. I was going to get the most efficient I could, but like many things, you end up paying exponentially more money the better it gets. Also, a bunch of my existing heating and cooling system would have to be seriously altered before a really high efficiency one would work. So, I'll just get a pretty high efficiency one. :-)

Of course, maatnofret insisted that it was a nice day out today, and she liked having the windows open. So, the AC isn't on now. But, I'm not spending another sleepless, blown on night like I did last night. The windows are all shutting and the AC is turning on. :-)

What? That statement didn't make any sense to me. I sense there's a pun or a joke somewhere in there that I'm not getting.

Wowza. You might want to get more quotes on your new a/c unit before you go with that one. sugarbeet and I just put in an extremely high efficiency furnace AND a very high efficiency air conditioner and the whole shebang cost us $5K.

A hint: don't go with Sears. They're extremely expensive and don't even do the installation themselves. Everything's farmed out to various heating/cooling people.

Yes, this and things a couple of others have said have made me think that shopping around is a good idea. I really liked the engineer that came out to my house though. He was competent and intelligent.
