09:25 pm - Google has an IM service!
Google has a new IM service, and I'm on it already. If you're stuck on Windows and want a client that can work with it, go get gaim. If you're on Linux, also use gaim, which is already installed by default by most distributions. If you're on something else, you need a client that speaks the open Jabber protocol.
Unlike all the other major IM services, google's is encrypted from the client to google's server. This means that you, your correspondent, and google can read all your messages. This is much better than the other IM services which allow the entire world to read all your messages.
If you have a gmail account, you already have a google IM account.
I will be posting my contact info in a friends-only post if anybody wants to IM me on google. :-)

But, this isn't quite enough. You have to click on the little triangle by 'Show more options' so you can set a couple of other things...
Click on 'Remeber password' and 'Auto-login' if that's your preference. Then you should be able to bring up gaim's accounts window and log in. :-)
