An atheist is forcing the prosecution a priest in Italy for fraudlently claiming that Jesus Christ existed.

I suspect (but don't know for certain) that there is indisputable evidence that someone existed who fits many of the church claimed facts about Jesus. But I also think that there are things the church attributes to this person that either didn't happen, or that someone else did. I would also not be surprised to discover that this person's name is not Jesus Christ. But I don't know how relevant that is. And, as to whether or not this person is the son of god, well... That's a matter of faith, and not something for the courts to decide IMHO.

But, I don't know how Italian law works, so I may be making assumptions I shouldn't be.

It would please me to see Christianity lose much of its claim to authenticity in this way. I personally think the Christian bible is a mix of history, self-congratulatory back-patting by the victors and outright myth. One of its big strengths is the way it mixes the mythology and history. It makes it harder to deny the mythology.

Re: How do you ID Jesus.

I don't know. Maybe you just ask. Are you Jesus? I've heard he's supposed to be coming back. :-)
