Bush has been saber rattling about Iran for a long time now. It's interesting that suddenly Iran seems to be presenting us with the perfect excuse to do something nasty to them. This person has an interesting analysis of why Iran is suddenly a problem.

Thanks flexibeast for point me at this.

This should, of course, be taken with a grain of salt. I'm really interested in people's opinions about exactly how much salt should be used. This does have the property of neatly explaining Bush's antics in Iraq. None of the justifications given to the public hold any water, and I've been curious as to what the actual reasons for our actions are for a long time.

If Bush were a slug I'd say an entire container of Morton's! ;-)

While it wouldn't surprise me at all if war with Iran is on the agenda for the Bush team (it's smelled a bit like we're headed that way), I'm not so confident he could sell it at home. I think he'd have to have something more dramatic than suspected weaponry to get folks on board, between the folks who never wanted the Iraq war, folks who approved but want to know the exit plan, and military families who may not be ready for another round.

Bush has shown minor interest in selling his actions at home, but I doubt that lack of popular support would stop him.

Others have expressed similar views on 'why Iran' Another popular theory is that Iran is next on the "threats to Israel" list, and this Administration is more interested in shooting than talking (note that Egypt got off the list years ago, without an invasion). Both views have some substantiating evidence.
