Though, in general I'm sort of optimistic about it despite the inauspicious beginnings. :-)

We had a fun party last night. It went until about 04:00 or so. We even got in a round or 2 of Cricket Cricket towards the end, and discovered that with just 5 people things don't drift nearly as much as you'd expect. :-) Or maybe you just draw better when you're badly in need of sleep. :-)

It was mostly all klicrai and Jeremy's friends. Though wolfieboy showed up early before everybody else, but also had to leave for work early, before everybody else. But I get along well with many of klicrai's friends and I generally really enjoyed all the people who came over.

We did have a guy show up who I wasn't so happy about as the party progressed. He works as a caretaker for the nearby church, and he let us all in to climb into the bell-tower of the church to see the various things happening in Seattle at midnight. He is also an ex-marine.

But, he also incessantly hit on all the women he perceived as single. And over time he drank an enormous quantity of alcohol, smoked 4 joints and ate half a bag of mushrooms. So, he became weirder and more obnoxious as the night wore on. We finally had to ask him to leave because he was making a lot of people uncomfortable.

But, seeing Seattle from the bell-tower was kind of fun, and I may have gotten some good pictures out of it.

Where did it start? Is there some canonical online explanation for this game that I can point to?

I don't know where the game originated, but I know the people who gave it the name "cricket cricket" (among them roobug and coyotegirl, iirc). I think they also brought the game to this area from points east.

(The name comes from a game where the phrase was "liar, liar, pants on fire". Someone drew a lyre for "liar", and the next person thought it looked like a cricket…)
