I'm leavin' on a jet plane... - Journal of Omnifarious

I had a plane ride filled with children who's parents measured their age in months. One was particularly fussy and unhappy until I started making faces at her. Then she cheered right up. :-) I could tell her mom was faintly distressed that she cheered up for me and not for her. Her explanation was that my glasses made me look like her dad. :-)

I think it's just that little kids like me because I'm still a little kid myself in a lot of ways. :-)

The other kid was being adopted from Guatemala. She was very quiet and wide-eyed most of the time, though she grinned at me a few times because I was being silly. :-) Her new mom fussed about her liking men so much and wondered aloud if this would be a problem for her in the future. That kind of ticked me off, but I kept my mouth shut.

Yeah, liking men is so going to be a problem for her. *snort* People in our culture are strange. It's sad that our media has sucessfully painted men as of evil intent when it comes to children. Even decent men buy into this crap. No one glares at me when I'm silly with children.

Luckily she didn't glare at me, or I would've felt an odd mixture of sleazy and anger that she wanted me to feel that way. But the comment struck me as being kind of absurd and awful all on its own for just the reasons you describe.
