04:38 pm - One problem down, a few more to go

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I now have a job. I start on Tuesday November 13th. I'm rather pleased about this job and feel much better about it than I have several of the other jobs I've had in Seattle. I will be working for a small startup called Evri as their build engineer.

Now the only major problem to solve is the housing problem. And having a job should make that a lot easier. A place that didn't make me fill out a formal application to live there would be really excellent. It also has to be north of the canals and stuff and west of I5, but still in Seattle. The roommate I had planned isn't going to work out, so I will have to find someplace for less than $1251/mo.

I once again mention the existence of Greenwood and my happiness with its usefulness in terms of location :)

*grin* Do you have any specific apartment in mind? I have been looking at that area actually. Someone pointed me at Housing Maps which is a great mashup of Google maps and Craigslist.

My only experience with Greenwood was where I lived... totsally within your price range but it's VERY rare that an apartment becomes vacant (and there are some downsides to the places as well). But if it's typical for the neighborhood it's worth looking.

BTW I'm not avoiding most social contact bbecause I dislike certain people, or people in general, I'm doing it because I seem to be reconsidering my entire set of assumptions of reality/my perception of it/coping with the sudden realization that the "fixed" frame of reference I was using is not only not fixed, but that it might be impossible for me to be comfortable with whatever frame of reference I decide to treat as "fixed" for practical reasons. Sort of like I'm trying to imitate Hofstadter in Martian without actually speaking a single word of Martian.

In other words: Stephanie's not here right now, but if you leave your name and a proof of Goedel's Incompleteness Theorem in iambic pentameter, she'll get back to you as soon as she manages not to go into a fugue state as a result of trying to decide what to eat for lunch, and such.

Seattle is approximately %15-%20 more expensive housing-wise. But it still shouldn't be too hard, except for a couple of things.

My credit is horrible right now. :-(

And the difficulty mentioned in a comment in this post makes it hard too. :-(

Congrats on the job. You've gotta love a company that quotes Vinge on their home page.
