I can't find a place - Journal of Omnifarious

08:34 am - I can't find a place

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I haven't been able to find anybody interested in having me as a tenant. I can't find a place to move to. I've looked at 5 or 6 places now north of lake union and the canals and west of I5. They all turned me down. :-(

Current Mood: [mood icon] depressed

Have they given you any reasons why? *Hugs*

Yes. If I make this post friends-only I might say what it is.

Weird, as long as you pay the rent, I don't see what the issue would be?

It's probably not in the area you're looking but there's an apartment complex overlooking the space needle. I'll have to ask tina's son for the name again.

That sucks! I know -- I looked at 39 apartments before taking this one in desperation. I think I applied for about 8. The system in SF is a bit different from other cities, so that doesn't directly compare (a landlord here will *never* call you back unless you call every day to ask what's up) but still, my sympathies.

If I had a place I'd have even let you pay part of the rent in python code. :-)

OK, I am scared now. I know I will be looking for a place in a few months. What kind of roadblocks will I be hit with. since I have not rented anything or been on any kind of lease in over 8 years...

If it's what I think it is, you may be able to get some helpful advice through the Seattle housing authority. I know you don't come anywhere near qualifying for low-income housing, even if you would take that option, but the gov agencies have heard every problem story, surely they can point you in some direction.

And look around in White Center. That may be way south, but the bus service, including Express, to downtown and north of downtown is better than where I live. There might be a month-to-month to provide a roof until you find something else.

Thank you

Thanks. They weren't able to give me any direct help and seemed vaguely offended that I called when neither income nor credit was the issue. But, they did point me at the tenant's union, so that organization might be able to help. I should give them money anyway.

You should rent the place I'm in now. Except we're not moving out until April, when our lease runs out. And we're kind of moving out because we don't like the property manager. But other than that...

I bet the property manager there would reject me too unless the person was willing to rent to me based simply on the word of others.

*hugs* All you can do is keep trying, right?
Is there anything I can do to help?

My apartment complex is North Greenwood almost to shoreline and the building managers and us get along very well. We're the longest running tenants (5 years) and we could put in a good word for you here if you were interested. It's a mediocre complex that isn't taken care of well cuz the owner wants to put nothing into it, and we have some real idjits around us, but it's not bad and they don't seem picky. They pretty much have a permanent for rent sign up. I don't know what issue is getting you rejected, but if I did I could ask the manager about it as a potential roadblock. He's a super nice real estate agent and may have something helpful to say.

Thanks. :-) I'm willing to talk to you about it offline and preferably in person. Would you be willing to give me a call at the number that can be found at the end of this link and we can either talk, or if you have time arrange to get together for coffee sometime soon?

Is your apartment within the city limits of Seattle?

Thanks a lot!
