10,000 BC is a dud - Journal of Omnifarious

I made the mistake of seeing this movie on a whim without reading any reviews. It is an awful movie. Horrible dialog, bad special effects, corny unbelievable plot, tons of historical inaccuracies, just all around a bad movie.

The worst part is, I get the impression that the people putting it together didn't realize it was a bad movie. At every turn the narrator is telling us how much of a serious, epic story this is supposed to be. If you didn't realize that the narrator is intended to be serious it would be funny. As it is, it's just sad.

I almost left halfway through, which I've only done once or twice before. I just couldn't see it being worth my time, even after I paid money.

If you all want to see a decent cave man movie, go rent Quest for Fire. That one is truly excellent.

Yeah, I kind of figured it would be that way just from the previews. That is why I had no intention of going myself. Oh well, sometimes you get good movieage, and sometimes not so much.

The filmmakers responsible for this are the same ones who made some other box office successes that are, nonetheless, terrible movies. But because they contained state-of-the-art CG and lots of action, not to mention being fueled largely by demographics-driven cliches, they enjoyed an unwarranted popularity.

Needless to say, I haven't been impressed with their work since Stargate...and even that was rather disappointing; the TV series was infinitely better than the movie.

I have no intention of seen 10,000 BC in the first place; now that feeling id doubled at the very least.

I never saw the series but I found the movie "Stargate" to be disappointing. The 'egyptians as gods from outer space' theme is repeated in 10,000 BC. It seems to be an obsession.

The only movie he's done that's really unabashedly good is "Independence Day". And that's good because it's entertaining, not because it's a meaty, worthwhile movie. I also say "The Day After Tomorrow" and I kinda regret that too.

I'm getting a bit more critical in my old age. :-)

Stargate SG-1, the series, is excellent; compared to the movie, it's even better. Independence Day is a travesty; it's War of the Worlds told by people who can only write in Easy Reader™ speak.

Seriously...these guys seem unable to write anything that isn't a horrible cliche; every movie is nothing but a series of cliches and stereotypes regurgitated in a new order in the hope that no one will notice. It sucks.

While I don't disagree with you at all about that, I still think Independence Day was entertaining. *big grin*

Yeah, well...it's precisely because of those reasons that I could happily light those particular filmmakers on fire.

Not very. It fails on that count too.

Have you ever seen Quest for Fire? That's a good caveman movie.
