Can we say extra-judicial execution? We knew you could. Of course, since our government is of the people, by the people and for the people, each and every one of us bears responsibility for what happens there.

It occurs to me, that while the Soviet Union may have had an iron curtain, we are developing a similar curtain of our own, born of obsessively self-focused journalism and a foreign policy guaranteed to make any US citizen thinking of traveling abroad afraid for their lives.

Well the media is certainly evil. There's no real question (in my mind at least) of that. So how do we distinguish reality and fiction from we're reading? The truth is, we can't.

Your statement about US citizens being afraid for their lives while traveling abroad reminds me of a image that the media itself is trying to project.

Because no one seriously believes that this is a governemnt of the people, by the people, or for the people. Especially not the people abroad. All those stories about the terrible things the EU is saying about the U.S. and her people are products of our screwed up media. When you're actually over there, you know what you find? A lot of sympathetic people. Because they know our government is a product of Dubya (and the rich corporations who put him in that seat) not us. They hate his guts, but for the most part they sympathize with us.

What we've been experiencing increasingly over the past several decades (and especially the last few years) are things that people abroad have known for thousands of years. They recognize it. The media, on the other hand (as tools of our bloody government) want us to believe that everyone else hate us, and that if we go to Paris we'll get the snot kicked out of us. That only serves Dubya's agenda to prove that we're the good guys, and everyone else is bad.

Our government want us to be afraid. And the media is more than happy to help. Fear sells better than sex. Dubya certainly understands that.

Thank you for that post. :-) You're right. I had forgotten to think critically about something rather critical. :-)
